87, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2016.  Affectionately known as “Nana” Bettye was born October 17, 1929 in Glasgow, KY to Jesse Johnson and Estella Martin and was the stepdaughter to Jessie Mae Follis. Bettye has eight siblings. She married George W. Stovall on March 9, 1948. They moved to Louisville, KY where her passion for caring for others led her to a career as a Registered Nurse where she fulfilled her dream for over thirty years at Methodist Hospital. George and Bettye’s union of 68 years blessed them with five daughters, Carol, Shelia, Glenda, Georgette (Alonzo) and Tonya (Bryan). Both her husband George and daughter Shelia preceded her in death. Bettye, a quiet, loving, faith filled women of GOD who without fan-fare went about her life exhibiting the qualities of faith that she impressed on each of her children and later onto her grandchildren. Mamma was an avid reader who loved to cook for her family including those she didn’t know who were in need. Mamma was quiet and very funny yet a pillar of strength in the midst of life’s storms keeping her family anchored in the Word of GOD. She leaves behind to honor her memory, her most treasured and cherished possessions her daughters Carol and Glenda Stovall, Georgette Kidwell, and Tonya Shaw, her grandchildren Joshua, Erin, and Blaire Kidwell, and her two son-in-law’s, Alonzo Kidwell, and Bryan Shaw, her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews and finally her grand pets Peanut, Frankie, Ears and Kitty.  Mamma you will be missed but you will always be in our hearts and minds. We will see you again where we will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. We love you Mamma, now fly our Beautiful Angel Carol, Dee Dee, Georgie, Tonya, Josh, Erin, Blaire, Alonzo and Bryan.

Visitation will begin 11 a.m. Friday with funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. at her church, 1501 Louis Coleman Jr. Drive, with entombment in Evergreen Cemetery. Professional services by Rodgers-Awkard & Lyons, 951 S. Preston Street.
