Scruggs, Gary Lamont, 70, passed away March 24, 2019. On September 16, 1948, Gary Lamont Scruggs, was born to the late Felix W. Scruggs and Dovie E. Scruggs, in Louisville, KY. He was the youngest of five siblings. God saw the weak body and tired mind and called him home on March 24, 2019.
He was a Smoketown neighborhood legend and was well known and liked by many. He went to Booker T. Washington, Jackson Jr. High and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1966. He was a former employee of Hillerich & Bradsby for a number of years. He was a construction worker and helped build the Jefferson Mall on Outer Loop. Also, he was a manager at the Ready Mix Corporation as well as Packaging Unlimited. He married Andrea Scruggs (Smith) on September 9, 1972 and had three children, Tonya L. Scruggs, Tyrice L. Scruggs and Terea L. Scruggs. Later, they divorced and he married Darlene Huskey on September 16, 1994, had a son, Derrick Huskey and inherited three step children, Vontee Huskey, Nigale Huskey and Nicole Huskey (Deceased) He leaves behind 7 children, Tonya Scruggs, Tyrice Scruggs, Terea Scruggs, Tammy Cash, Gary Cole, Sean Stewart and Derrick Huskey; Two step-children, Vontee Huskey and Nigale Huskey; 21 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; two sisters, Penelope (Penny) Hopson and Quimiller (Que) Dapremont; preceded by two deceased brothers, Felix W. Scruggs, Jr. and William R. Scruggs. Visitation will be 11 a.m. Saturday followed at 1 p.m. by his funeral at Mt. Olive Baptist Church 443 E. Kentucky St.. Interment will be in Cave Hill Cemetery.
