Obituaries

Katherine Pugh, 102, passed away on January 4, 2020. Services will be Friday, January 10, 2020 with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and funeral service to follow at 12 noon at Joshua Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 426 S. 15th Street. Interment will be in Green Meadows Cemetery.

KATHERINE “KAT” PUGH was born to Mary Jane Johnson and Jesse Pugh on June 18, 1917 in Brownsville, Tennessee. She answered the Lord’s call home and departed this life at the age of 102 on January 4, 2020.

Katherine attended school at Haywood County Training School in Brownsville, Tennessee. She accepted Christ at an early age at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Brownsville as well. She left Tennessee at an early age and moved to Detroit, Michigan and settled in Decatur, Illinois.

Katherine united with Ebenezer Baptist Church where she served and worked tirelessly as a faithful member. She was employed at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois for many years as a cook until she retired.

Katherine will always be remembered for her soft spoken and caring nature. She cared for many of her friends and family who were sick and shut-in and loved to cook. Even in the midst of those days where her health was declining, she would greet everyone with a bright smile.

Katherine leaves to cherish her memories her loving sister, Janet P. Buyck who served as her caregiver for ten years prior to her departure and sister-in-laws Josie M. Pugh, and Eva Nell.
