Obituaries

Leonard Smith “Goose”, 66, passed away on January 12, 2025. Services will be Friday, January 24, 2025 beginning with visitation at 11 am and funeral service to follow at 1 pm at Rodgers-Awkard & Lyons, 951 S. Preston Street.

Leonard is lovingly remembered by his siblings: Robert Baldon, Kenneth Smith, Larry Smith, Jeffrey Smith, Elizabeth Smith, Carrie Smith, Jackie Smith, Janice Smith, and Margret Smith. He also leaves behind many adoring nieces, nephews, and an extended family who will forever hold him in their hearts.

Beyond his immediate family, Leonard found a second family at Dino’s Food Mart on 26th and Broadway. The warmth and care shown to him by the Dino’s community meant the world to Leonard and his family, and their continued support throughout the years is deeply appreciated.

Leonard is reunited in death with his parents, Lucille Smith and Charles E. Baldwin; his brother, Thomas Smith; and other cherished family members: Shalonda Philpot, Carlos Hagen, Jerry Walker, Caroline “Nanny” Mattingly, Charlie’s “Dickie Lewis” Walker, and Donald Lee “Duck” Pettiway.

Leonard’s spirit, kindness, and vibrant personality will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
