Obituaries

Mariah Ervin, 93, passed away on November 24, 2022. Services will be Tuesday, December 6, 2022 with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and funeral service to follow at 12 noon at Gilt Edge Baptist Church, 1713 DL Motley Way, Jeffersonville, IN.

Mariah was born in Lexington, Mississippi on May 27, 1929. Her birthplace is commonly referred to as being “down in the delta.” Ms. Mariah grew up and spent her early years with her family in Mound Bayou, Mississippi. She later met and married Mr. Coolidge Erving. In 1952, the couple moved to the Newburg neighborhood in Louisville, KY then on to Chicago, IL. They spent almost 30 years in Chicago. After retiring from Mt. Sinai Hospital, Ms. Mariah and her husband relocated to Clarksville, IN where he preceded her in death. Ms. Mariah continued to live in Clarksville, IN, working as a homemaker for the remainder of her years. She enjoyed cooking, collecting what-nots, and raising her foster children. She was well-known for her delicious cakes. She was an active member of Gilt Edge Baptist Church in Jeffersonville, IN under the leadership of Rev. Motley and later Rev. Nathan. Ms. Mariah departed this life on November 24, 2022 while at Lincoln Hills Nursing Home in New Albany, IN.

Mariah leaves to mourn the three beloved children she raised: Shamepane, Terrance, and Latrice (deceased); her loving Goddaughter Tammy Adkison and two daughters Amanda and Sarah of Clarksville, IN; Dear church friends, Sis. Sonora and Sis. Debbie of Clarksville, IN; a host of nieces and nephews including Ivery Ervin, Charlena Ervin Rosebuds, Overlena Ervin Taylor, Flora Ervin Winters, Ruby Ervin Woods and Roosevelt Ervin all of Greenwood, MS.
