Obituaries

Melvin Venice, 68, passed away on March 10, 2025. Services will be Thursday, March 20, 2025 beginning with visitation at 11 am and funeral service to follow at 1 pm at Rodgers-Awkard & Lyons Funeral Home, 951 S. Preston Street.

Melvin “BUDDY” was born in Montgomery, Alabama to Eddie W. Venice, Sr., and Beatrice Venice-Porter. He then moved with his mother and siblings to Louisville, KY. He graduated from Central High School and went to work at Our Lady of Peace Hospital and then on to other various jobs. One of his biggest enjoyments was riding his motorcycle with his friends.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Eddis Venice and Beatrice Venice-Porter; his sister, Debra A. Porter; and his brother, Eddie W. Venice, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory; his son, Antwan Venice; his two twin grandsons, Joshua and Jeremiah Coggins; one sister, Brenda Jones (Eric); one brother, Judge Anthony Porter; and a host of relatives and friends.

He will be deeply missed by all of us. We Love you “BUDDY”
