Services will be Saturday, January 14, 2023 with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. and funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. at Green Street Baptist Church, 519 E. Gray Street. Interment will be in Green Meadows Cemetery.
Roberta Frances (Smith) Elzy (affectionately called Kitty) is the fourth child born on April 25, 1936 in Louisville, KY to the late John Henry and Cleoda (Eleby) Smith. Her stepmother, Mary (McElroy) Smith helped to raise her and her siblings Mary Anderson, John Smith, the late Thiessie Arnold and Milton (Mickey) Smith after the passing of their mother.
Kitty was married to Harold Eugene Elzy, Sr. for 57 years. Together, they raised 5 children: Jerome Smith, Sharon Neal, the late Harold Elzy, Jr. (Wanda), Annette Bowman and Katherine (Errol) Chambers.
She attended Jefferson County Public Schools and was a domestic worker for many years. She enjoyed photography, canning fruits and vegetables, mailing cards and health information to family and friends. She was also a caregiver for her Father, Sister Thiessie, and Grandmother Eliza Fant.
In 1951, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, and was baptized at Green Street Baptist Church by Henry Wise Jones, Pastor. Most recently she was the photographer for the church and sang in the choir.
Memories will forever be cherished by her husband, children, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and a host of other relatives and friends.
