God’s Orator, Rev. Douglass Lee Motley Jr., fondly known as “The Community Pastor” was born to the Reverend Douglass Lee Motley Sr. and Dr. Fannie Ernestine (Smith) Motley on April 12, 1950 in Tuskegee, AL on the campus of Tuskegee Institute, (now Tuskegee University). He was the former pastor of Gilt Edge Missionary Baptist church where he retired after 40 years of service and served as the Pastor Emeritus until his last days. On July 20, 2023, God called Rev. Motley home. Visitation services will begin at Gilt Edge Baptist Church, 1713 DL Motley Way, Jeffersonville, IN. on Friday, July 28, 2023 from 6 – 9 p.m. and on Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 11-12:45 p.m. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023. Rev. Motley is preceded in death by both of his parents, Rev. D.L. Motley Sr. and Dr. Fannie E. Motley. He leaves and cherishes three daughters, Kamya Motley, Chloe Motley (caregiver), and Kyndia Motley (caregiver); Shajuana Campbell (former wife and primary caregiver); his one and only brother, Rev. Anthony A. Wagner Motley (Karen); granddaughter, Rhyen Dunn; niece, Shaunae Motley; great-niece, Sanaa McCullar; as well as a host of beloved cousins and extended family. In Lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to the Gilt Edge Baptist Church Scholarship Fund in C/O of Kyndia Motley to aid in Rev. Motley’s baby girl’s college education per his last wishes.
