Audrey Jean Hinton, 81, passed away on May 7, 2024. Services will be Wednesday, May 15, 2024 beginning with visitation at 12 noon and funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church, 1501 Louis Coleman Jr. Drive. Audrey was born to the late James H. Logan and Ethel Walker in Old Fort, NC. and moved to Kentucky when she enrolled at Berea College where she completed a Bachelors Degree in Sociology. She moved to Louisville in 1967, working for the Commonwealth of Kentucky Child and Family Services Department from 1989-2009 as a support and advocacy officer. Within this role, Audrey Jean took responsibility for victims of violence, spousal abuse and neglect. The stories of these individuals whom she worked diligently to help had a great impact on Audrey Jean, who one day decided to write a poem; thus, sharing it with her supervisor, Jean Betts, who was so moved by its motif that she encouraged Audrey to continue writing. Volume I of her anthology, Enroute, can be found in the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. Audrey Jean was a poet and seamstress weaving words and sewing hems, tailoring every part of our lives with her beautiful fabric. Her resilience allowed her to enjoy the scenic route of her earthly journey. She was preceded in death by her father, James H. Logan; mother, Ethel Walker; husband, Gerald Hinton, Sr. Audrey Jean leaves to cherish the memory of her vibrant presence; son, Gerald A. Hinton, Jr.; granddaughter, Tiffany L. Hinton, three great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.
