Doris E. Stroud

Doris Elizabeth Stroud, 86, passed away on May 16, 2026. Services will be Saturday, May 30, 2026 beginning with visitation at 10 am and funeral service to follow at 12 noon at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, 2224 W. Chestnut Street. Interment will be in Green Meadows Cemetery.

Doris was born on December 15, 1939, in Louisville, KY, to the late Clarence Newcomb Sr, and Susie Bell Beecher-Newcomb. Doris was the youngest of nine siblings. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, William Dawson, Clarence Jr., and Matthew Newcomb, and her five sisters, Marylee Moorman, Bessie Jenkins, Matila Newcomb, Lauretta McMurry, and Geraldine Lewis.

Doris was united in marriage to Leroy Stroud Sr. for 42 years until his passing on December 9, 1999. To this union, eight children were born. She attended Madison High School and later worked at Spalding Laundry and Faucett Painting Company. At the age of 11, Doris gave her life to Christ and became a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church on January 22, 1950, where she was baptized by Rev. Bule.

Doris loved music and sang with the Sunbean Band and The Golden Echos. She was known for her kind heart and helping spirit. She especially enjoyed a good plate of hot fish and an ice-cold Pepsi—something anyone who knew her would remember well. Her favorite gospel songs were “Precious Lord” and “Amazing Grace.” Her favorite scriptures were John 14 and Psalm 23.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband Leroy Sr., her sons Curtis, Leroy Jr., and Bruce Stroud, and her granddaughter, Lacy Hayden.

She leaves to cherish her memories her five daughters: Regina Billups, Sandra Stroud, Annette Woodard (Richard), Angela Hopkins (Earl) and Natalie Stroud; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
