Robert L. Kelcy, Jr.

Robert Levy Kelcy, Jr., 74, peacefully departed this life on May 26, 2026. Funeral service will be 12 noon on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at New Zion Baptist Church, 1501 Louis Coleman Jr. Drive with interment  at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, Radcliff, KY. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Tuesday also at the church.

Kelcy was born July 5, 1951, in Louisville, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert L. Kelcy, Sr. and Maude Ervin Palmer (Claybon Palmer). He was baptized at Hill Street Baptist Church and later joined New Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend A Russell Awkard and remained faithful until his passing. He was a deacon in the church who worked with the youth department, cushites, and sang in the choir.

Kelcy married his high school sweetheart, Roselyn Dolores LaPradd. Through this union, two children, Robert L. Kelcy, III and Ratosha M. Kelcy, and many years of marriage and family were celebrated.

Kelcy attended the Louisville Public School System, Morehead State University, Western Kentucky University. In addition to his education, Kelcy retired from the United States Army Reserve as a Master Sergeant. Kelcy was proud and excited to have been a schoolteacher, counselor, and assistant principal as he made an impact on students’ lives with daily affirmations of “The difference between a good day, and a bad day is your attitude.”  He enjoyed traveling state to state, and out of the country. As a lifelong fan of the University of Louisville Cardinals, he enjoyed watching sports even playing a little basketball himself. Kelcy said “y’all know the rest.”

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 54 years, Roselyn Kelcy, son Robert L. Kelcy (Andrea), daughter Ratosha M. Hayden. Grandsons John McGee and Dominique Swann, Granddaughters Brianna McGee and Kariya Edwards. Great-Grandchildren Aaliyah Swann, Ahmerrion Swann and Kisen Edwards, Sisters, Valeria Parker, Vickie Black, and Doris Ann Kelcy, Sister-in-Law, Sandra Willams (Kevin), Brother-in-Law, Georger LaPradd, Sr., Aunts, a host of nieces and nephews, lifetime friends, students, and a special group of men known as “The Brotherhood.”
