Minnie Louise Gibson, 84, was born in Grenada, Mississippi, to Corrina Knox and Reverend Booker T. Dumas. She was born on October 21, 1935. But by the time the midwife got to town it was December 8, 1935 and that was registered as her birthday. She was one of nine children. They all preceded her in death. She came to Louisville in 1942 and joined Little Zion Baptist Church (now New Zion). She married Emmanuel Herrod and to this union five children were born. She later married Mose Halsell, and three children were born to this union. Finally, she married Morris Gibson, and after Morris joined New Zion, she became known as The Candy Lady She was foster mother for more than 200 children, adopting one, Robert Eli Gibson Rison. She retired from Phillip Morris after 24 years of service. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 54 years, Morris Gibson; daughters, Linda Ingram (Charles), Dolores Hall (Donald), Barbara Thomas, Mozell Jones (Brian), Sheila Halsell Jones (Bobby), Jennifer Hayden, Marcella Gibson; sons Emmanuel Herrod (Terri), Michael Herrod (Brenda), Mose Halsell Jr. (Lee), Morris Gibson Jr. (Marilyn), Marvin Gibson, Timothy Gibson, Bryant Gibson; foster sons, Daniel Payne, Evan Elmore and Justin Burton (who preceded her in death); sisters. Beula Dansberry, Barbara Jean, Killebrew, Joyce, Kathy, Jennie Ruth of Memphis, TNp; brother Reginald Thomas; her best friends, Joyce Burbridge, Shirley Terry, and Joann Rutledge; grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
