Herman Lee Boston, Sr., 68, passed away on August 22, 2025. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Services will be Saturday, September 6, 2025 beginning with visitation at 11 am and funeral service to follow at 1 pm at New Zion Baptist Church, 1501 Louis Coleman Jr. Drive. Interment will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, KY. Herman was born August 19, 1957 in Louisville, Kentucky to Susie Bell Boston and William Boston. Herman departed this life peacefully 3 days after celebrating his 68th Birthday at Texas Roadhouse with family and friends. As a young child, Herman developed a lifelong love of adventure and following local, national and world events. At the age of 20, Herman married Freda Lenise Ferguson and soon thereafter joined the US Army to serve his country and to experience the world. After serving honorably in the Army, Herman attended Jefferson Community College (JCC) on the G.I. Bill. Herman and Freda went on to have two sons, Herman Lee Boston Jr. and James Edward Boston II. Tragedy struck when Herman Jr., was killed by a hit and run driver while riding his bicycle. This loss would forever shape how Herman engaged with the world and others. Herman enjoyed playing cards; drinking beer, smoking, eating Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken, riding TARC busses, staying up to date on current events, horse racing, spending time with friends; playing the Kentucky Lottery “twice daily” and singing. His favorite song was Gregory Porter’s rendition of “It’s Probably Me.” Brownsboro Road became his stomping grounds for a lifetime of gainful employment. It was there, he worked as a landscaper for a number of clients—many of whom employed him for decades—and turned the Shell Gas Station into his own personal office. Herman had a special affinity for cats and loved starting and ending every day with a cold beer. Herman was preceded in death by his aforementioned son Herman Jr.; his grandparents Rose and John Bell; his father Willam Boston; mother Susie Bell Boston; brothers Charles W. Bell and James E. Boston; aunt Rosa Mae Bell, and nephew Deion A. Kennedy. He leaves behind his son, James Edward Boston, II, grandchildren, Virginia Rochelle and Herman Taquir Boston; siblings, Robert L Bell, Sr., Deborah Boston Holmes (Robert III), Brenda Boston Frazier (Walter), and John T. Boston; his aunts; Cecilia Bell Campbell and Christina Bell Pearson; uncle Youie J. Bell; nieces and nephews Eric L. Boston, Sr., Marvin A. Boston, Sr., Robert L. Bell, Jr., Danielle M. Bell, Dr. Tiffany N. Bell, Darrick A. Johnson, Jr., Dashay Johnson Thrift (Charles), Brooklyn A. Hillman (Davon), Jada D “U Duncan, Imari N. Boston, Bruce S. Golson, Jr., Raven D. Holmes, Ryane D. Holmes, and Robert K. Holmes IV; many cousins; as well as, a host of friends to cherish his laughter. | |
