Anna Lorraine Hughes, 86, passed away on February 5, 2026. Services will be Saturday, February 14, 2026 beginning with the visitation at 11 am and funeral service to follow at 1 pm at Star Hope Baptist Church, 5009 E. Indian Trail. Interment will be in Petersburg/Newburg Cemetery.
Lorraine worked at the University of Louisville Hospital for 30 years. After retirement, she stayed active working in organizations such as NCNW, NAACP as well as being very active as a member of St. Stephens Baptist Church. She began attending Star Hope Baptist Church when her health began to decline. Lorraine’s favorite past-time was picking up her grandson, Jeramy, to “ride around” and then stop at restaurants to eat food neither of them should be eating with their diabetes. Lorraine also worked with her grandson Jeramy in the Infield Ministry on several efforts to improve the Petersburg and Newburg communities.
Lorraine married Dennis Hughes Sr right after college. After her divorce, she worked to build a home for herself and two kids in the Petersburg neighborhood while also working to put her two children through college.
Lorraine leaves to greatly miss her a son, Dennis Martin Hughes Jr (Bette), a daughter, Angela Rebecca Kelly (Andre); three grandchildren Alethea Allen (Geoff), Imani Olivia Kelly and a grandson who preceded her in death, Jeramy Bahir Hughes; three great-grandchildren Myeah, Bastian and Kallel Allen; three brothers, Ernest Clay Harris (Lenora), Richard Harris (Earlica), Clarence Harris (Tonya) and William Russell Harris – deceased (Wendy); nephews Ernest Clay Harris Jr, Bruce Harris (Kara), Richard Harris Jr (Annie), Byron Mays, Ryan Harris (Khasha), Dylan McIntyre (LaWanda), Michael C Harris Sr, Derrick McIntyre (Nikki) and one niece Rachella Harris; three cousins raised as siblings, Connor (Sandra), Donna Matthews (Ronald) and Marvin Connor (deceased) as well as a host of family, friends and loved ones.
