Da’Jon Anthony Hayes-Burr, 15, passed away on July 25, 2026. Services will be Friday, August 7, 2026 beginning with visitation at 11 am and funeral service to follow at 1 pm at Zion Baptist Church, 2200 WW. Muhammad Ali Blvd.

Da’Jon also known as “Dudee” or “Googa Booga” was a ball of electrifying, respectful joy, Da’Jon was the comedic relief that everyone enjoyed. Anytime Da’Jon would come around you knew he was about to say something random and funny. He enjoyed playing pranks on his loved ones, He wore a smile that would light up any room, that would make anyone who came in contact with him smile and burst out into laughter. Da’Jon was born on December 14, 2010, to Mother Lakeita Burr-Smith and Father Shantez Hayes (Deceased) in Louisville, Kentucky. He attended pleasure, Ridge Park high school his freshman year and was looking Forward to starting his sophomore year at Iroquois high. Da’Jon was a phenomenal artist who enjoyed drawing and had a talented gift of making musical beats. He was small in stature, but mighty in heart he always stood up for what was right without a second thought, no matter the cost. He accepted Christ at the early age of 5. He was a phenomenal son, brother, nephew, grandson, godson, and friend and was excited and looking forward to becoming an uncle.

Da’Jon is survived by his Mother Lakeita Burr-Smith, Step Father Lamont Smith, Brothers Kamari Hayes, Ian Smith, EJarius “EJ” Burr, Amir Hayes, and a Sister Fasha Burr, Grandmothers Natasha Burr, Stacy Hayes, and Shalonda Smith, Grandfather Anthony Ferguson and several Auntie’s, Uncles, Great Grandparents, cousins, God Parents and 3 God Brothers and many loved ones.

Da’Jon’s caring heart was shown through an act of remarkable courage during Thunder Over Louisville, when he stepped forward to protect a young girl who needed help. Even after being seriously injured, he remained concerned about the child he had protected. His bravery and compassion touched people throughout Louisville and across the world. He was featured in Hollywood Unlocked, People magazine, Atlanta Black Star and various other platforms,

In recognition of his courage and selflessness, Da’Jon received a Medal of Honor and bravery plaque from the Louisville Metro Council. Governor Andy Beshear also honored him with a letter and ceremonial challenge coin. His willingness to help someone in need reflected a strength and compassion far beyond his years.

Da’Jon’s life reminds us that a hero is someone who chooses to stand up for another person, even when doing so requires tremendous courage. His family asks that his memory be honored by choosing kindness, protecting others, standing against violence, and helping create a safer world for all young people. Although his life ended far too soon, Da’Jon leaves behind a legacy of love, courage, compassion, and selflessness that will never be forgotten.
