Obituaries

Rev. Darrell A. Martin, 64, passed away on September 10, 2026. Services will be Saturday, September 19, 2026 beginning with visitation at 10 am and funeral service to follow at 12 noon at King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church, 1620 Anderson Street. Interment will be in Green Meadows Cemetery.

Anyone who knew Darrell, knew his Granny “Lula Mae Robinson” was the light of his world. They had a Special Unconditional, Unbreakable Bond and in her eyes, he could do nothing wrong. Darrell was a “People Person” played basketball during his school days, had a talent for singing, would travel with his cousins singing Quartet Style Selections and most importantly, received Christ at an early age. As Darrell grew up, he accepted his Call to The Ministry, was ordained by Pastor Charles Elliott, Jr, of King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church and was serious about his Relationship with The Lord. He was a long-standing of King Solomon and dedicated member, serving as a minister, Sunday School Teacher, and Choir Director.

Darrell also Loved spending time and bragging on with his Grand Children. Even after Darrell had multiple strokes, he did not let that keep him from doing what he Loved, being in The Lord’s House Fellowshipping with his Church Family and going out for a good meal. Stony River was his favorite spot for a serious meal and Texas Roadhouse was his go to when he did not have a ride there. It was not unusual for you to see Darrell maneuvering through the neighborhood in his motorized wheel chair heading to The Roadhouse whenever he did not have a ride to Stony River for that big 22 oz Ribeye He Loved.

Darrell was also enthusiastic about traveling, which may be why he was always on the road with his chair. And when he needed to go where his chair could not take him, he would not hesitate to pay someone to drive him there. One last thing, Darrell Loved to wear nice suits and Detroit was his destination for customized designer suits. Now, Darrell can “Rest From His Labor and Stand at The Finish Line With That Great Cloud of Witnesses, Cheering Us On!”

Darrell is preceded in death by his mother Doris Holder; step-father, Eugene Holder; father, Robert Martin, Sr.; step-mother, Dithonia Martin-Moon; grandmother, Lula Mae Robinson; and  brother, Carlos Dwayne Martin.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Teresa Martin; children, Robert Martin, Justin Martin, Devin Smith, Joy Smith; grandchildren, Raniyah Martin, Jacoreyion Harris; brother, Robert Martin, Jr. (Detroit MI); godson, Rashad Bishop; and his cousin, Harold Valentine (who helped keep him honest).
