Delores C. Shemwell, 89, passed away on February 1, 2026. Funeral service will be 11 am Saturday, February 14, 2026 at New Zion Baptist Church, 1501 Louis Coleman Jr. Drive with interment in Green Meadows Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Friday also at the church.
Delores C. Jackson Shemwell was born in Louisville, Kentucky on May 2, 1936. She was the last of ten children born to the late David and Minnie Jackson. Delores accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at six years old at First Gethsemane Baptist Church under the pastor-age of the late Rev. Rufus Hughes. She was educated in the Louisville Public School System and a graduate of the Historic Central High School. She was later employed by Jefferson County Public School System as a reading instructor for 27 years.
She married the late Charles Shemwell III in 1956. To this union three children were born—Wayne, Charles IV and Carol. She served in many capacities in her life including but not limited to being a licensed cosmetologist.
She leaves to mourn her passing her: three children, Wayne Shemwell (JoAnn), Charles Shemwell, and Carol Shemwell; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of other friends, relatives and loved ones.
