Doris Jean Snordon, 84, passed away on November 28, 2025. Services will be Friday, December 12, 2025 beginning with visitation at 11 am and funeral service to follow at 1 pm at Greater Israel Baptist Church, 1509 Magazine Street, Interment will be in Petersburg/Newburg Cemetery.
Doris Jean loved the Lord and one of her favorite gospel songs was, “Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine!”. Doris Jean attended Central High School where she was a majorette for the black and gold Yellow Jackets. She worked Brown and Williamson and in later years she worked for Metro Louisville where she was well loved and respected. She used her influence at Metro to help her community, and she was instrumental in getting her Alderman to reopen Fountain Ferry Skating Rink before it was torn down years later.
Doris Jean often took care of the children of working parents. She was affectionately known by many as “Mama Jean.” She helped raise many kids besides her children and grandchildren. She also helped feed many people over the years and was known for her great cooking, especially her desserts. She waw also known for her trips to the Bingo Hall, where she had so much fun with friends and family throughout the years.
Doris Jean was preceded in death by her mother Pauline Carter and her stepfather George Carter. She was also preceded in death by her beloved grandson Marco Roberts.
She is survived by her son Alonzo Roberts (Cheryl), her daughter Prophetess Paula McIntyre (Prophet Rodney), and her daughter Ashley Snordon Gibson (Duke). She is also survived by five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, along with many other relatives and friends.
