Enzie “Marie” Phelps, 67, passed away on April 3, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved her deeply and a lifetime of memories full of laughter, love, and unforgettable moments. Services will be Monday, April 13, 2026 beginning with visitation at 2 pm and funeral service to follow at 5 pm at Rodgers-Awkard & Lyons Funeral Home, 951 S. Preston Street.

Enzie was the kind of person you didn’t forget. She was funny, outspoken, full of personality, and never afraid to be exactly who she was. She could make you laugh when you needed it most and always had a way of saying what everyone else was thinking. She brought life, humor, and honesty everywhere she went, and the people who loved her will always remember her for the joy and realness she brought into their lives.

More than anything, Enzie loved her family. Her daughter and grandbabies meant the world to her, and everyone knew she was fiercely protective of the people she loved. If you were hers, you were loved hard, defended loudly, and cared for deeply. That was just who she was. She was strong, loving, one of a kind, and impossible to replace. The space she leaves behind is enormous, but so is the love and laughter she gave during her life.

Enize will be missed beyond words, but she will be remembered every time her family laughs, tells stories, speaks their mind, or loves each other fiercely — just like she did.

Enzie was preceded in death by her parents, Bernie Ray Phelps, and Darlene Stargel Hale. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her beloved daughter, Vicky Marie Denny and son-in-law Roy Wickliffe Jr; her cherished grandchildren, KaTia MyRae Marie Smith and KaMarion Charles William Smith; her siblings, Brenda Allen, Raydean Hotchkiss, Emmett Phelps, and William Phelps (Laura); her nieces and nephews, Donnelle Hotchkiss, Donald “Chip” Hotchkiss, April Devore, Bill Phelps Jr., Timothy Phelps, Austin Phelps, Lucas Phelps, Charlie Neace and Owen Phelps; er longtime loved one, Alanna Lightsy; Kenitria Graves, who she loved as a daughter; Joey Goodwin, who she loved as a son; her beloved nurse aide, Yanelis Olivera; and many other family members and loved ones who will forever hold her in their hearts.

The family asks that she be remembered not only with tears, but with laughter, stories, and love — because that is exactly how she lived.
