Obituaries

Gerald Wayne Mitchell, 64, passed away on May 16, 2026. Services will be Wednesday, June 3, 2026 beginning with visitation at 11 am and funeral service to follow at 1 pm at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 2973 Wilson Avenue. Interment will be in Green Meadows Cemetery.

Gerald was born on August 8,1961 to his parents Annie Mitchell and Loving Todd and was a native of Louisville, Kentucky.  Gerald was a proud graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School where his love for basketball grew. After high school, he selflessly enlisted in the U.S Army, serving our nation with courage and dedication. In addition to his military service, he was known for his strong work ethic, humble demeanor, love of music, and unwavering love for his family.

Gerald was preceded in death by his loving parents and twelve of his beloved siblings. He is survived by his brother Donald Mitchell; sisters, Brenda Mitchell-Herrod (Michael), Virginia Byrd (Cleo), Vera Handley, and Beverly Brown as well as one uncle, Donald Bell (Terry) and a host of nieces and nephews.
