Irma Reed Martin, 72, passed away on January 6, 2026. Services will be Wednesday, January 14, 2026 beginning with visitation at 2 pm and funeral service to follow at 3 pm at Rodgers-Awkard & Lyons Funeral Home, 951 S. Preston Street.

Irma, known to many as Squirm or Whez, was born into this life on January 8, 1953, to Mary “Suh” Reed. She was the oldest of three siblings, and they always knew that she was in charge. Irma was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Reed; grandmother, Cora Reed; sister, Cheryl Reed; and nephew, Barry Reed. Irma was a mother, big sister, beloved grandmother, and aunt who leaves behind a legacy of laughter, warmth, and love of family.

Irma was the heart of her family, radiating a love that was the cornerstone of their lives. She never met a stranger; her bright, open spirit and genuine interest in others meant she could strike up a conversation with anyone, making fast friends wherever she went. She valued her independence and lived life on her own terms, a trait that inspired everyone around her.

She enjoyed life’s simple pleasures and its occasional thrills. A trip to the casino always brought a spark to her eyes and a smile to her face. In her quiet moments, she could often be found indulging in her favorite treats: some candy and a cold Pepsi. However, nothing gave her more joy than being a friend to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Above all, Irma’s deepest appreciation was for her daughter. We know her gratitude for Ms. Rita ran deeper than words could ever explain, a bond of love and support that was truly unconditional.

Irma’s presence brought light and liveliness to every gathering, and she will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She leaves to cherish her loving memory her devoted daughter, Sharita Hall, son, Cecil Collins, brother Steven Reed, sister Tina Reed, four grandchildren: Antoinette “Shanelle” Reed, Alex Foster, Tyree Foster, and  Na’Talia “TalTal” Reed, 13 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends who will forever hold her close in their hearts.

Irma will be remembered for her loving spirit, her love of family, the casino, and the light she brought to everyone’s lives she touched.
