King James Harris

King James Harris was born to James Douglas Harris and Mamie Harris on February 25, 1929 in Louisville, KY. He was the oldest of seven children. He was educated in the local school system and he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.

He worked for many years in construction and was a member of the Laborers International Union. In his later years he worked at Churchill Downs where he worked closely with the jockeys and horses, doing a job that he loved to do. He loved his sports and watching the horses run. He will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his sons, King James Floyd and Michael Joe Floyd; his parents, James Douglas Harris and Mamie Harris; and his two brothers, Fredrick Harris and Russell Harris.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children Desiree Wade, Drenna Bean, Lisa Floyd, Daryl Floyd, Clarice Kilgore, Timothy Floyd, Bruce Stephenson, Eddie Lee Harris, and Kenneth Winburn; his siblings, Lottie Robinson, Arneida Murphy, Raymond Harris, and Mildred Spence; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. Friday with funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. at Rodgers-Awkard & Lyons, 951 S. Preston Street.
