Lavonta Ravon Churchill, Jr., 33, passed away on June 1, 2026. Services will be Saturday, June 13, 2026 beginning with visitation at 10 am and funeral service to follow at 12 noon at King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church, 1620 Anderson Street. Interment will be in Green Meadows Cemetery.
Lavonta, also known as “Ray Jay” to some and “Vonta” to others was born to ChiQuita Trice and LaVonta Churchill Sr. on March 7, 1993 in Louisville, KY where he resided most of his life. Later in life he moved to Arizona where he spent numerous years with his grandmother Veronica Churchill “G”, the first one to call her that, whom he shared a special bond that remained an important part of his life. Lavonta recently returned to Kentucky.
Lavonta will be remembered for his infectious smile that could light up any room, his unwavering love for his family, and his passion for football. He played for the Yellow Jackets, where he was a 2X AllStar, and “boy was he cold on that field!!!”. His bright smile will never be forgotten, his love will always be felt, and his memory will forever live in our hearts.
Lavonta was preceded in death by his grandmother Mary Elaine Trice; and his Aunt Veronique Williams. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Chiquita Trice (Ronnie Walker); his father, LaVonta Ravon Churchill, Sr. (Toni Churchill); four children, Aniya Taylor, King Taylor, Malaysia Churchill, Levi Ray Churchill and their mother Mya Taylor; five sisters, Ineshia Trice, Mikaya Johns, Zaneta Moore, Ravon Churchill, TeMea Shelton, and Raegan Churchill; one brother, Quincey Walker; grandmother, Perry Mitchell; great-grandmother, Barbara Mitchell (Nana); his nephew, Iran Trice; and a host of other nieces, nephews, grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, family, friends and a special lady friend Kaelyn Caruthers.
