Obituaries

Lawrence Edward Jewell, 77, passed away on October 7, 2025. Services will be Saturday, October 18, 2025 beginning with visitation at 10 am and funeral service to follow at 12 noon at Greater New Bethany Baptist Church, 1136 Louis Coleman Jr. Drive. Interment will be in Green Meadows Cemetery.

Lawrence E. Jewell was born July 1, 1948, in Louisville, Ky to Lorenza Jewell Sr and Annie Wilson Jewell. He was the third of nine children. He attended public schools in Louisville and was an Army veteran.

Lawrence met his wife Donetta in 1965, and they were married August 20, 1969. Their union lasted for 56 years. Out of that union sprung three sons. Lawrence and Donetta joined Greater New Bethaney Missionary Baptist Church in 2017, where his brother Hezzy M. Jewell presided as Pastor. Lawerence retired from Niemco Fabricators where he worked as a saw operator for 15 years. Lawrence loved to play the game of basketball which he played until his early 50’s. He also loved playing cards, watching sports and attended as many live sporting events as he could. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.

He leaves to cherish his memory wife Donetta Jewell; sons, Timothy M. Glenn (Timolin), Shameel Haneef AbdulWakil, Andre D. Jewell; sisters, Annie E. Jewell and Justina Jewell; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
