Obituaries

Johnson, Reverend Monroe, 95, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2016. He was a former member of Little Zion Baptist Church, and in 1973 he founded Pure In Heart Missionary Baptist Church, where he pastored for nearly forty years. He was also a retiree of General Electric. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, James Johnson (Rosetta), Thomas Johnson (Betty), Rose Wright (John), Lizzie Anderson (Moses) of Chicago, Illinois, Shirley Oldham (Jewel) of Cleveland, Ohio, Christine Gregory(Eddie) of Cleveland, Ohio, Joyce Metlock, and Millie Osborne (James); sister, Mary Lee Williams (George) Lanett, AL; 30 grandchildren, 80 great-grandchildren and 38 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be noon Saturday at New Zion Baptist Church, 1501 Louis Coleman Jr. Drive with Interment in Green Meadows Cemetery. Visitations will be Friday 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. at Pure In Heart Missionary Baptist Church, 1639 W. Kentucky Street and Friday 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church.
