Obituaries

Roxanna Denise Benson, 71, passed away on October 9, 2025. Services will be Saturday, October 18, 2025 beginning with visitation at 10 am and funeral service to follow at 11 am at Rodgers-Awkard & Lyons Funeral Home, 951 S. Preston Street.

Born on August 6, 1954, in Louisville, Roxie was the beloved daughter of Charles Flagg and Mary Jones, who both preceded her in death. She proudly graduated from Phyllis Wheatley Elementary, Manley Junior High, and Louisville Central High School, a true product of Louisville’s West End.

She lived life full of sharp wit and fierce devotion. A champion Spades player, she held court at every table she touched, winning books and talking trash with equal skill. She was also a gifted seamstress who could mend or tailor just about anything placed in front of her.

She retired from Trinity High School, where she worked faithfully for many years, earning the respect of staff and students alike. Outside of work, she was a proud and unapologetic fan of the University of Louisville Cardinals. Win or lose, she cheered loud enough for the whole block to hear.

Roxie is survived by her loving sister, Vicki (Eugene), her two devoted sons, Donald (Crystal) and Douglas, Rhonda, her best friend of over 50 years, and Frances, who was by her side until the end. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Keyauna, Jalen, Jaciya, Destiny, Mikayla, Maliyah, Douglas Jr., Jacion, Christian, and Keilan — and her great-grandchildren, Kamryn and Jasiah, who were the joys of her life.
