Obituaries

Ruben Pulliam, Jr., 88, of Louisville, Kentucky, son of the late Ruben Sr, and Fannie Pulliam passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, surrounded by his family. Funeral service will be 10 am on Friday, July 10, 2026 at New Zion Baptist Church, 1501 Louis Coleman Jr. Drive with interment in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Thursday also at the church.

Known for his unwavering commitment to equality, his willingness to help anyone in need, and his powerful voice in the community, Ruben spent his life advocating for others and making a lasting impact on those around him. After serving his country in the United States Navy, where he attended electrician school, Ruben built a successful career as an electrician. He was a hardworking provider who continually sought a better life for his family and never stopped fighting for what he believed was right.

Ruben never hesitated to stand up for others. Whether speaking in church, addressing community gatherings, or sharing his views on local radio programs, he was a passionate advocate for equality and fairness. He believed every person deserved dignity, respect, and opportunity, and he devoted much of his life to helping those who needed support. Determined to create new opportunities for his family, Ruben proudly became one of the first Black families to move into the Pleasure Ridge Park community. That achievement became a cherished family story and reflected his courage, perseverance, and belief in progress.

Above all, Ruben was a proud husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband, brother, and friend whose wisdom, humor, and guidance touched generations.

Ruben is survived by his beloved wife, Marie (Marshall) of 36 years; his sons, Ruben III (Toni), Steve (Radka), Rodney (Missy), and Raphael (Nicola); his stepsons, Eddie Jr., Troy and Chad; his step daughter, Aisha, and her daughter Bella whom he adored; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his siblings, Warren, Raymond (Quintella), Anna, Geneva, and Margaret (Dickie); and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Ruben leaves behind a legacy of courage, service, faith, and advocacy. He taught his family to stand up for what is right, to help those in need, and to never be afraid to use their voice. His influence will continue to be felt for generations. He will be dearly missed, especially his giggles.
