Obituaries

Ruth Lee Screws, 89, passed away on August 16, 2026. Services will be Saturday, August 22, 2026 beginning with visitation at 11 am and funeral service to follow at 1 pm at Lampkins Chapel C.M.E. Church, 2738 Algonquin Parkway. Interment will be in Haven of Rest Cemetery in Eufaula, Alabama at 12 noon on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

Ruth Lee Denard was born in Eufaula, Alabama to the late Ethel Lee Denard and Dock Mahone on October 26, 1936.  She attended school in Eufaula and late moved to Atlanta, Georgia for two years.

Ruth met and married Norman Screws and they moved to Louisville, Kentucky.  Upon moving to Louisville, she found herself employed for various doctors of whom she was made to feel like family.  She loved the work and she loved the people.  In 1961 she joined Lampkins Chapel CME Church. Upon becoming a member of Lampkins Ruth gave her all to the Lord.  She served in the choir, on the Trustee Boad, Stewart Board and was a part of the Willing Workers.  Ruth also sang with her sister Emma and her Brother-in-law Jimmy in the Gospel Trumpelets. She loved shopping, traveling, and the Food Giveaways, just to name a few of her hobbies.  She was one who was always willing to help others and never met a stranger.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ethel Lee Dennard and Dock Malone, two brother: Arthur Gene Dennard and Paul Dennard; three sisters:  Emma Kate Felton (James), Willie Ann McNeal (Lillice Eugene), and Aggie Dennard; her sister-in-law Thelma Dennard and her brother-in-law Larry Thomas.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, two brothers, Bill Dennard, Eufaula, AL and Johnny Ray Dennard, Lima, OH; one sister Ethel Lee Thomas, Louisville, KY and her sister-in-law Bessie Dennard, Eufaula, AL. and a host nieces, nephews family and friends. A special friend, Ms. JoAnn Floyd.
