Thaxton, Willie Newbern, 72, passed away on August 8, 2014. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife Mae Thaxton; children, Byron Thaxton (Tyniski), Jocque Thaxton, and Barquett Lee (Jackie); sister, Lavada Wedelle; and 12 grandchildren. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday August 16, 2014 at his church, 1501 Louis Coleman Jr. Drive, with visitation 6 – 9 p.m. Friday at the church. Arrangements by Rodgers-Awkard & Lyons, 951 S. Preston Street.
