Da’Jon Anthony Hayes-Burr, 15, passed away on July 25, 2026. Services will be Friday, August 7, 2026 beginning with visitation at 11 am and funeral service to follow at 1 pm at Zion Baptist Church, 2200 WW. Muhammad Ali Blvd. Da’Jon also known as “Dudee” or “Googa Booga” was a ball of electrifying, respectful joy, Da’Jon was the comedic relief that everyone enjoyed. Anytime Da’Jon would come around you knew he was about to say something random and funny. He enjoyed playing pranks on his loved ones, He wore a smile that would light up any room, that would make anyone who came in contact with him smile and burst out into laughter. Da’Jon was the oldest of 3 from his mom, Da’Jon was born on December 14, 2010, to Mother Lakeita Burr-Smith and Father Shantez Hayes (Deceased) in Louisville, Kentucky. He attended pleasure, Ridge Park high school his freshman year and was looking Forward to starting his sophomore year at Iroquois high. Da’Jon was a phenomenal artist who enjoyed drawing and had a talented gift of making musical beats. He was small in stature, but mighty in heart he always stood up for what was right without a second thought, no matter the cost. He accepted Christ at the early age of 5. He was a phenomenal son, brother, nephew, grandson, godson, and friend and was excited and looking forward to becoming an uncle. Da’Jon is survived by his Mother Lakeita Burr-Smith, Step Father Lamont Smith, Brothers Kamari Hayes, Ian Smith, EJarius “EJ” Burr, Amir Hayes, and a Sister Fasha Burr, Grandmothers Natasha Burr, Stacy Hayes, and Shalonda Smith, Grandfather Anthony Ferguson and several Auntie’s, Uncles, Great Grandparents, cousins, God Parents and 3 God Brothers and many loved ones. Da’Jon’s caring heart was shown through an act of remarkable courage during Thunder Over Louisville, when he stepped forward to protect a young girl who needed help. Even after being seriously injured, he remained concerned about the child he had protected. His bravery and compassion touched people throughout Louisville and across the world. He was featured in Hollywood Unlocked, People magazine, Atlanta Black Star and various other platforms, In recognition of his courage and selflessness, Da’Jon received a Medal of Honor and bravery plaque from the Louisville Metro Council. Governor Andy Beshear also honored him with a letter and ceremonial challenge coin. His willingness to help someone in need reflected a strength and compassion far beyond his years. Da’Jon’s life reminds us that a hero is someone who chooses to stand up for another person, even when doing so requires tremendous courage. His family asks that his memory be honored by choosing kindness, protecting others, standing against violence, and helping create a safer world for all young people. Although his life ended far too soon, Da’Jon leaves behind a legacy of love, courage, compassion, and selflessness that will never be forgotten.

Carl Robert Rodgers-Yelder, 46, passed away on July 23, 2026. Services will be Saturday, August 8, 2026 beginning with visitation at 10 am and funeral service to follow at 12 noon at St. Stephen Baptist Church, 1018 S. 15th Street. Interment will be in Green Meadows Cemetery. Carl was born on June 23rd 1980, to Darlene Y. Yelder and Carl R. Rodgers in Louisville, Ky. Carl knew and loved the Lord and attended St. Stephen Baptist Church. In his youth, Carl attended Whitney Young Elementary, Johnstown Elementary, Stuart Middle School, and Doss High School, where he was crowned Mr. DOSS in 1999. He enjoyed playing basketball and continued to play throughout the years. For post-secondary education, he attended Spaulding University for 2 years, where he also played basketball. During his year at Spaulding, he began the start of his DJing career. During his DJing career, he hosted teen parties for the youth and was even a mentor. He was a hard, dedicated worker. His first job was working for his father at the dirt bowl on “Carl’s Mobile Munchies”. Carl was a former employee at Courier Journal for a few years and the United States Postal Service for 14 years. During his time as a mail carrier, Carl took pride in his work and cherished the opportunity to brighten the days of those he served with his friendly personality and caring heart. Throughout his working career, he never lost his love and passion for DJing. Following in his father’s “Disco King” Carl Rodgers footsteps, he became Louisville’s favorite DJ, Hypeman, promoter, and entertainer, going by DJ Lil Carl. He loved to dance, make music, karaoke, and have a good time. Carl was the life of every party! In his spare time, he would watch and attend WWE matches, along with UofL and 49ers games. Carl loved his family and friends. He never missed a moment when it came to them. He will truly be missed! Carl was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; four uncles; three aunties; and five cousins. He leaves to cherish his memory and legacy his mother, Darlene Yelder; father, Carl Rodgers; stepmother, Vivian Rodgers; sisters, Crucita Beamus (Bennie), Tilita Heard (Won), Carlene Yelder (TJ), Carissa Rodgers; and Brother, Chris Rodgers; eight nieces, Shinky, Meme, Titi, Dasia, Tasia, Bop, Carleigh, and Daya; four nephews, Lil E, Wonyae, Carter, Darris, and Carsen; three great-nephews; one great niece; and a host of many relatives and friends.

Rodney D'juan Smith, 60, passed away on July 22, 2026. Services will be Friday, August 7, 2026 beginning with visitation at 11 am and memorial service to follow at 12 noon at Rodgers-Awkard & Lyons, 951 S. Preston Street. Rodney was born May 9, 1965, at the Old General Hospital, passed away leaving behind a life defined by kindness, generosity, and love. He was the cherished son of Paula G. Smith and the late Cecil Lee Smith Sr. He graduated from Waggener Traditional High School and worked many jobs throughout his life, spending most of his years serving with the dedication at the Masonic Homes of Louisville. He was baptized on October 20, 2002, at Hill Street Missionary Baptist Church, grounding his life in faith and compassion. Rodney was known for his giving heart. Always offering gifts, support, and joy to his family and close friends. Even in death, his generosity continued as he donated tissue to Network of Hope, allowing him to help others one final time. He is survived by his mother Paula G. Conley, his grandmother Clara “Grandmommie” Pendleton (deceased) His two deceased uncles Horace “Toby” Grant (Mildred), James “Jimmy” Pendleton. His brother and sister, Cecil Lee “Tippy” Smith Jr (Donna), Sherri “Muffin” Smith (Kenny), his nieces and nephews, Ashley Smith, Alfred Junie Smith (deceased), Alesha Smith, Cecil L Smith III, the Grant and Pendleton cousins, his eight great nieces and nephews, his boyhood friends, the Snadon sisters and the Calloway family who held a special place in his heart. Rodney’s gentle spirit, warm humor, and endless generosity will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Robert, affectionately known as "Blood," was born on March 12, 1954, in Athens, Alabama, Robert lived a life full of hard work, humor, and cherished moments with family and friends. Robert attended Warner Jr High School during his formative years. He later dedicated over two decades of his career to Executive West, where he worked in banquet setups. His commitment and diligence were evident throughout his time there until his retirement in 2010. Known for his vibrant personality and sharp wit, Robert was truly the life of the party. He had a knack for making people laugh with his quick jokes and infectious sense of humor. A man of many interests, he enjoyed music, fishing with his buddies. Robert also had an impeccable sense of style and took pride in dressing sharply—a reflection of his lively spirit. Robert is survived by his beloved mother, Virginia Mae Johnson; his youngest brother, Harry Johnson; and a host of nieces and nephews who will forever cherish their memories with him. He is preceded in passing by his brothers Wille James Johnson, Clarence Tony Johnson, and Leonard "Lee Lee." Those who knew Robert will remember him as a jokester with a kind heart and a love for life’s simple pleasures. May his memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to share in his journey.

Walter Cowherd passed away on July 13, 2026 in his Louisville home at the age of 74. Funeral service will be 1 pm on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at Forest Baptist Church, 2600 Petersburg Road with interment in Petersburg/Newburg Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 pm Monday also at the church. Born on March 4,1952 in Louisville, KY to Daisy Summers-Cowherd and Aurther Lee Cowherd Sr., Walter spent his initial years in the California Neighborhood before his family moved to Newburg while he was in elementary school. It was in his youth that he acquired his childhood/neighborhood nickname “Popcorn”. It was in Newburg that Popcorn established deep, long-lasting relationships with many in the Newburg area. Dear friends like Thomas Hudson, Dwight Sweeney, and “Mozzie” DeWalt became part of his close circle. In fact, at the tender age of 13, his close friend Dwight Sweeney introduced him to a young Janice Marie Britt who would turn out to be the love of his life who he later married on March 17,1973 and they had 2 children. Walter graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School where he embraced his passion for music and achieved college credits at Eastern Kentucky University studying music. Rooted in faith, Walter was baptized as a child at Community Baptist Church. Loyal to his faith in Jesus Christ and driven by his passion in music, Walter dedicated his time and talents to music ministry. He was a vocalist for Keith Hunter and GMWA. He also played the organ and keyboard for Forest Baptist Church, Forest Tabernacle Baptist Church, and Peace Presbyterian Church. He also volunteered his musical gifts and assistance during the creation of the Newburg Youth Community Choir. And when called upon, he served as a deacon for Forest Baptist Church in the early 2000’s. Walter always sought after opportunities to be a contribution. He was always willing to help. From assisting with coaching T-ball and Baseball teams at Newburg Park, to providing assistance and care to the sick and shut in, Walter was always open to lending a hand wherever he saw it could help. He was also a man of great creativity and ingenuity. If there was ever a need regarding décor for an event, he often surprised others with his creative displays. He once meticulously used fishing lines to make decorations appear to float around the ceiling of a venue. Walter also impressively assisted in creating a fairly realistic stone tomb )with a stone to roll away) with paint and paper products for an Easter Play at Forest Baptist Church. Walter is preceded in death by his parents; His siblings Aurthur Lee Cowherd Jr., Lamont Cowherd, Belinda Cowherd, Veranetta Cowherd, and Theresa Cowherd. Walter is lovingly remembered by his wife Janice M. Cowherd; His children Janice D. Cowherd and Kevin Cowherd; His brother & sister-in-law Grand Britt and Mary Britt along with a whole host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, and friends not listed but all loved and deeply valued.

In the face of tremendous challenges she had great determination. Those who knew Cherie remember her laugh, conversations, sense of humor and how she spoke her mind. Johnny Shenard Dunn, 62, passed away on July 11, 2026./ Services will be Thursday, July 30, 2026 beginning with visitation at 11 am and funeral service to follow at 1 pm at West End Baptist Church, 1400 S. 4th Street. Johnny Shenard Dunn was born on January 20, 1964 to the late Leontine Dunn. Johnny attended JCPS (later receiving his GED), he worked as a General Laborer for over 30 years. Johnny loved his family and never met a stranger. He was a good father and loving husband. One of his favorite things was watching documentaries (he was such a wealth of information) “The best thing that ever happened to me (Johnny said), was the day I joined the West End Baptist Church.” Circumstances led him to Dr. Dartanya Hill, Sr. which led him to what would become his church home under the leadership of Pastor Dartanya G. Hill, Sr. Johnny served in the Feed the Homeless Program, as a member of the Mighty Men of West End, as a Preacher of the Gospel and last but certainly not least, a member of the WEBC Mass Choir. No matter where he served, “the praises of the Lord were continually in his mouth” (Ps.34:1). He leaves to mourn his wife of 35 years, Delinda Loiuse Dunn, four children Turrhod Mitchell, James Mayes, Johnny Mayes and Johnetta Mayes, three siblings; Anthony Dunn (Kelicua), Phyllis Dunn (Micheal) and Terrie Dunn (Donnie), his aunt; Wanda Dunn, 20+ grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and so many friends. Alice Joy Summers was born on August 5, 1957, in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Eugene and Ona Summers and quietly departed this life, July 6, 2026. She now joins her beloved son William “Lil Bill” Hogue and her companion of over 35yrs, William “Billy” Glover, in eternal peace.

Alice attended Shawnee High School and later received her GED. Late in her adult life she became a member of Bates Memorial Baptist Church, where she genuinely enjoyed hearing Rev. Dr. Bruce Williams preach on Sundays.

Alice was a devoted Louisville Cardinal basketball fan and would go toe to toe with anyone that didn’t have good things to say about her team, especially if they were touting her concerning the U of K Wildcats. She spent most seasons cheering on her cards with the love of her life, Billy. Alice had a great love for motorcycles that became the cornerstone of her life; a passion that extended to her now deceased son, Lil Bill, his father, Wild Bill Hogue, and the love of her life, Billy. I think it can be concluded that she had a thing for the Bills!

Alice didn’t meet a stranger and lived a full life even when having to reside with wheelchair assistance. If you ever saw her, she was zipping around the streets in her motorized scooter, never allowing her situation to suppress her living life.

Alice was a devoted daughter, loving mother, and cherished friend whose kindness and strength touched the lives of many.

She leaves behind her beloved son, Anthony Summers, stepchildren; Travis “Juan” Bradley, Tawana Hughes, Tracey Washburn, Tara Glover, and Justin Parker, siblings; Katie Summers, Sandra Hughes, Donald Summers, Mary Summers, and Patricia Summers; nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Brandy Proctor- Hogue and a best friend of over 50yrs, Cynthia Francis Pennick as well as a host of other family members and friends. A very special thank you to Alice’s granddaughter, Annisha McElroy for being her caregiver.

Ruben Pulliam, Jr., 88, of Louisville, Kentucky, son of the late Ruben Sr, and Fannie Pulliam passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, surrounded by his family. Funeral service will be 10 am on Friday, July 10, 2026 at New Zion Baptist Church, 1501 Louis Coleman Jr. Drive with interment in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Thursday also at the church. Known for his unwavering commitment to equality, his willingness to help anyone in need, and his powerful voice in the community, Ruben spent his life advocating for others and making a lasting impact on those around him. After serving his country in the United States Navy, where he attended electrician school, Ruben built a successful career as an electrician. He was a hardworking provider who continually sought a better life for his family and never stopped fighting for what he believed was right. Ruben never hesitated to stand up for others. Whether speaking in church, addressing community gatherings, or sharing his views on local radio programs, he was a passionate advocate for equality and fairness. He believed every person deserved dignity, respect, and opportunity, and he devoted much of his life to helping those who needed support. Determined to create new opportunities for his family, Ruben proudly became one of the first Black families to move into the Pleasure Ridge Park community. That achievement became a cherished family story and reflected his courage, perseverance, and belief in progress. Above all, Ruben was a proud husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband, brother, and friend whose wisdom, humor, and guidance touched generations. Ruben is survived by his beloved wife, Marie (Marshall) of 36 years; his sons, Ruben III (Toni), Steve (Radka), Rodney (Missy), and Raphael (Nicola); his stepsons, Eddie Jr., Troy and Chad; his step daughter, Aisha, and her daughter Bella whom he adored; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his siblings, Warren, Raymond (Quintella), Anna, Geneva, and Margaret (Dickie); and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Ruben leaves behind a legacy of courage, service, faith, and advocacy. He taught his family to stand up for what is right, to help those in need, and to never be afraid to use their voice. His influence will continue to be felt for generations. He will be dearly missed, especially his giggles.

She spoke her mind with honesty, loved deeply, and leaves behind countless cherished memories. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Wesley Fowler JW); her granddaughters, Tiffany Brown and Marketta Brown; her brothers, Warren Jackson, Louis Jackson, William Jackson, Edward Jackson, and Donald Jackson; and her sister, Joann Trowel. Sarah Marie Shultz born August 22, 1969 to the late Charlene Ann Walker and Thomas Shultz in Louisville, KY. She was joyfully reunited with her sister Shirlene Denise Ellery (Punkin) and aunty Shirlene Ann-Marie Jernigan. Sarah attended Jefferson County Public School, obtained her Certified Nursing Assistant Certification where she went on to be a great CNA for 13 years plus. She enjoyed shopping and high heels, spending time with family and traveling to Indianapolis with Aunty Cookie, she loved music, playing cards and going to church. Looking good and leaving that smell of baby powder as she passed by. She gave her life to Christ at Image of God Ministry under the leadership of Pastor Keith Wilkins in Jeffersonville, IN, in Louisville, Ky she attended Village Worship Church under leadership of Bishop Anthony Handley, if she couldn’t make it to her home church she went to Spillman Memorial Church under leadership of Rev. Andy Dickerson. She was dedicated to making it to church. On July 1, 2026 she was called home to be with the Lord. She leaves behind to keep her memory alive her daughter LaVita Shultz, sons, Michael Hunt Jr. and William Shultz (Kimberly Shultz). Her grandchildren Walter Duncan Jr, NorRiya Abernathy, KaRie Abernathy, LaMicha Hunt, Dallas Hunt, Aslan Hunt, Messiah Hunt, William Shultz jr, Kam Shultz, Kash Shultz, Dream Shultz, and her companion Steven Boone. Her Great Grandchildren Na’Zahrie Abernathy and Wynter Duncan all of who she truly loved to talk to and see any chance she got; and a host of family friends. Elder Michael Jerome Royston, 61,a devoted father, technology pioneer, faithful servant of God, and beloved friend, passed away on Sunday morning, June 28, in Sellersburg, Indiana, following a courageous battle with complications associated with long-term kidney disease. Visitation with the family will begin at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 7th at More Than Conquerors Christian Church, 4600 Cane Run Road. The memorial service will follow at 6:00 p.m. Born on July 17, 1964, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Michael was the son of Rev. Claude Raymond Royston and Lillie Mae Royston (Hart). He spent his childhood in Louisville, Kentucky, where he graduated from Fern Creek High School and later earned an Associate's Degree in Computer Science from Watterson College. Michael accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of six, beginning a lifelong journey of faith that shaped his character, his service, and his love for others. His relationship with Christ was evident in the way he lived—serving faithfully, encouraging others, and extending kindness to everyone he met. Michael spent his life building bridges—both through technology and through his unwavering faith. He began his professional career with Electronic Data Systems (EDS), where he worked for many years and developed technical expertise that would become the foundation of his life's work. Throughout his career, he became instrumental in bridging the gap between medicine and technology by training healthcare professionals on vital electronic record-keeping systems. His entrepreneurial spirit later led him to establish Royston Tech Inc., where he became the neighborhood's trusted technology expert, helping countless individuals and families navigate the ever-changing world of computers and everyday technology with patience, generosity, and skill. A founding member of More Than Conquerors Christian Church, Michael faithfully served as an Elder and remained committed to living out his faith through service. His passion for mentoring also extended to the Boy Scouts of America, where he invested in the next generation. Michael truly "never met a stranger." He was known as a kind, gentle, and humble man who would go to great lengths to support his family, friends, neighbors, and brothers and sisters in Christ. Michael is now reunited with his beloved wife, Jean Ann Royston; his precious granddaughter, Karter Jade Royston; and his younger brother, Dewayne Anthony "Tony" Royston. His legacy of faith, love, service, and generosity lives on through his daughter, Kendra J. Royston, and her spouse, Precious J. Royston; his cherished granddaughter, Kehlani J. Royston; his twin brother, Brian K. Royston, and sister-in-law, Julia Royston; his loving parents, Rev. He worked various jobs in his life including an auto body detailer, groundskeeper, and a grocer. Gregory loved to move around and was able to visit multiple states as well as visiting Korea during his time in the Army. Gregory was a man with many friends and loved ones and always had a big smile and his face and an “AYE” to greet you with. He always had a natural ability to gravitate people towards him. He was always on the go and the life of the party wherever he went. Even when life slowed him down a bit, you could always catch him out on his porch with a good conversation. He was always there when you needed advice, an ear to listen, or even a good laugh. Gregory is preceded in death by his mother; Beulah, his father; Frank, his brothers; Carl, Frank, and Dewight, and his sisters Carol and Meta. William graduated from Westport High School where he played in the band and was on the basketball team. He attended Technical School for drafting for 2 years. William was the glue that held the family together with gatherings at his home and was always the first to offer to cook for the holidays, birthday parties, New Year parties, with lots of pictures and videos of past and present times. Also included childhood elementary friends he still had throughout his life. He was an event planner and a known DJ his hook name was “Studio 55” and also known as Benny Hill in the Larkwood neighborhood. He worked in the Auto industry for years and was a well-known carpenter with skills of remodeling, bathrooms, kitchens, and basements. William could do anything with his hands and tools and does a great job. Everyone that knew him valued his honesty and generous spirit. William was a father, a brother, an uncle, a good friend, and host to many. Most importantly a good person. May he "Rest in Peace". William is preceded in death by two brothers, Curtis and Charles Ray. Kelcy, Sr. and Maude Ervin Palmer (Claybon Palmer). He was baptized at Hill Street Baptist Church and later joined New Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend A Russell Awkard and remained faithful until his passing. He was a deacon in the church who worked with the youth department, cushites, and sang in the choir. Kelcy married his high school sweetheart, Roselyn Dolores LaPradd. Through this union, two children, Robert L. Kelcy, III and Ratosha M. Kelcy, and many years of marriage and family were celebrated. Kelcy attended the Louisville Public School System, Morehead State University, Western Kentucky University. In addition to his education, Kelcy retired from the United States Army Reserve as a Master Sergeant. Kelcy was proud and excited to have been a schoolteacher, counselor, and assistant principal as he made an impact on students’ lives with daily affirmations of “The difference between a good day, and a bad day is your attitude.” He enjoyed traveling state to state, and out of the country. As a lifelong fan of the University of Louisville Cardinals, he enjoyed watching sports even playing a little basketball himself. Kelcy said “y’all know the rest.” He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 54 years, Roselyn Kelcy, son Robert L. Kelcy (Andrea), daughter Ratosha M. Hayden. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Friday, also at the church. James was born on June 24, 1947, to the late Monroe and Renza Johnson in Louisville, KY. He was the fifth of nine children born to that union. At an early age, he accepted Christ and was baptized at Von Spiegel Missionary Baptist Church. He later attended New Zion Baptist Church and then moved with his family to Pure in Heart Baptist Church founded by his father. James was educated in the Jefferson County Public School System and attended Central High School. Early in his life, he was employed at General Electric Appliance Park, before he found his love for driving. He began a long career as a truck driver and ultimately retired from Active Transportation Trucking Company. Truck driving was more than just a job to James; it was a reflection of his hardworking spirit and unwavering commitment to providing for his family. Through every mile he traveled and every challenge faced, he carried with him a strong sense of responsibility, pride, and love for those waiting for him at home. James had a very loving and outgoing spirit, devoted to his children and family. He was a long-time, dedicated member of the Yearlings Club and an avid fan of Pittsburgh Steelers football and University of Louisville basketball. James also had a great love for music and was a well-known disc jockey along with his younger brother, Thomas Johnson. He was preceded in death by his baby boy, James Johnson, Jr., brother, James Monroe Johnson, sisters, Ann Osbourne and Christine Gregory. Interment will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central. McHenry was born November 2, 1936 in Holly Rock, TN. He was the first of three sons of the late McHenry Johnson, Sr. and Daisy Burrus Johnson. He was better known as Mack. Mack gave his life to Christ at a young age and joined the A.M.E. Church his father pastored. Upon graduating from Paris Western High School in Paris, KY, Mack joined the United States Air Force and served from 1955 to 1959. After his military service, he moved to Oakland, CA, and worked for the United States Post Office. Mack transferred to Chicago, IL post office to be near his parents. Mack served the people as a police officer and later became a sergeant. Mack worked for the Chicago Police Department for 35 years and retired in 1991. Mack was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. McHenry Johnson, Sr. and Daisy Burrus Johnson; his brother, Ernest Levoid Johnson. Mack married Dorothy Ford on June 25, 1988. The Lord blessed this union with two stepchildren, Michelle McBride and Steven Rutledge.. Upon retiring from the Chicago Police Department, Mack and his wife moved to Louisville, KY to take care of his parents in 1991. Mack joined the Saint James A.M.E. Church where he served as steward until his health began to fail. Because love is far greater than death, Mack departs this earth in body only. Those left to celebrate and cherish his life and legacy are: his loving wife, Dorothy, of 37 years; his brother, Paul Demond Johnson of Indianapolis, IN; Margurett Fossett, his first cousin he considered as a sister, of Indianapolis, IN; Joel Westbrook, his best friend and partner for twenty plus years; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Doris was born on December 15, 1939, in Louisville, KY, to the late Clarence Newcomb Sr, and Susie Bell Beecher-Newcomb. Doris was the youngest of nine siblings. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, William Dawson, Clarence Jr., and Matthew Newcomb, and her five sisters, Marylee Moorman, Bessie Jenkins, Matila Newcomb, Lauretta McMurry, and Geraldine Lewis. Doris was united in marriage to Leroy Stroud Sr. for 42 years until his passing on December 9, 1999. To this union, eight children were born. She attended Madison High School and later worked at Spalding Laundry and Faucett Painting Company. At the age of 11, Doris gave her life to Christ and became a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church on January 22, 1950, where she was baptized by Rev. Bule. Doris loved music and sang with the Sunbean Band and The Golden Echos. She was known for her kind heart and helping spirit. She especially enjoyed a good plate of hot fish and an ice-cold Pepsi—something anyone who knew her would remember well. Her favorite gospel songs were “Precious Lord” and “Amazing Grace.” Her favorite scriptures were John 14 and Psalm 23. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband Leroy Sr., her sons Curtis, Leroy Jr., and Bruce Stroud, and her granddaughter, Lacy Hayden. Lillie was the cherished daughter of Homer Strickland and Lethia Conn-Charter. Lillie's life was a testament to love, dedication, and resilience. She shared 59 beautiful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Lawrence E. Smith, whom she married on July 15, 1966. Together, they built a loving home in Jeffersonville, IN, where they raised four wonderful children: Lyndia Johnson, Michelle Smith, Angela Smith, and Lawrence Smith, Jr. Lillie's legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Charles Williams, Jr., and Alexandria Johnson, who brought immense joy to her life. A proud graduate of Louisville Male High School's class of 1965, Lillie furthered her education at Bellarmine College, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Her career as a registered nurse spanned three decades, during which she compassionately served patients at Jewish Hospital for 20 years and Baptist East in New Albany for another 10 years. Her commitment to caring for others left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of working alongside her. She retired in 2012, leaving behind a legacy of compassionate care and dedication. Lillie was a woman of many talents and interests. She was an enthusiastic participant in several bowling leagues for over 40 years, where her competitive spirit and camaraderie were always on display. Whether she was playing card games with her family, attending music festivals and concerts, Lillie's vibrant spirit was infectious. She shared her love of competition by cheering passionately at U of L basketball games, joining volleyball leagues and supporting her children in their extra-curricular activities. She also found great joy in reading romance novels and indulging in the captivating worlds of soap operas. She loved to travel and explored many places through vacation cruises with her husband, Lawrence. An example of her altruism is when her daughters wanted to join the Girl Scouts, but there were no troops nearby. Lillie inquired about starting a troop and was talked into becoming the Troop leader for the local Brownies in Jeffersonville, IN for two years. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family were the hallmarks of Lillie's character. Her beautiful smile and infectious laugh could light up any room, and her deep affection for her husband and family was evident in every aspect of her life. She remained close to her siblings, nieces, and nephews, always visiting and cherishing those relationships. Lillie was predeceased by her beloved parents, Homer and Lethia, and siblings, Charles Eugene Strickland, Jessie Williams, Mary Cecilia Peppers, Catherine “Itsy” Stevenson, Barbara Jean Matthews, Cornell Strickland, and Rosie Mae Grundy. From an early age, Deborah embodied resilience, independence, and a spirit that could not be contained. A gifted athlete, Deborah earned a full basketball scholarship to Kentucky State University, where her journey into adulthood began. Though her path did not follow a traditional route to graduation, Deborah’s life would become a masterclass in creativity, entrepreneurship, and determination. She loved singing alongside her sisters at church. They also wrote two songs, “Henry My Love” and “The Meaning of Love.” Dannella graduated from Central High School and often shared fond memories of her childhood. She would lovingly recall how blessed she and her sisters were to have homemade fresh baby-chick sandwiches prepared daily by their mother for school. Their mother, Mary Julia, was known for being very strict. She and her sisters often laughed about racing home from the recreation center trying to make curfew. On the nights they did not make it in time, Mary Julia would “get them together” as soon as they walked through the door. In Dannella’s teenage years, she was proudly crowned Recreation Center Queen. She later dedicated 28 years of service to Reynolds Metals Company before retiring. Dannella’s greatest pride and joy was raising her children and caring for her family. She married John Walker, and together they were blessed with three children. Dannella was preceded in death by her husband, John Walker, and her son, Danny Walker. Dorothy Louise Riley, 85, passed away on April 29, 2026. Services will be Saturday, May 9, 2026 beginning with visitation at 10 am and funeral service to follow at 12 noon at Little Flock Missionary Baptist Church, 1030 S. Hancock Street. Dorothy (Dodie) Louise Riley was born Dorothy Louise Applins on December 4, 1940, in Columbus, Mississippi, to Picola Buck and Leroy Applins. She was lovingly raised by her maternal grandmother, Mary Ella Hughes, who preceded her in death in the 1980s. Dorothy accepted Christ and was baptized at the age of 12 in Columbus, Mississippi, beginning a lifelong walk of faith. At the age of 14, Dorothy moved to Louisville, Kentucky, to live with her mother, Picola Davis. She attended Lucille Duvalle Junior High School and was among the first class to graduate the 9th grade from the new Duvalle on 34th and Bohne. She went on to graduate from Central High School and later earned a Technical Secretary Degree from Spencerian College. Dorothy’s professional journey led her to Nashville, Tennessee, where she served as an Administrative Assistant for a nonprofit Counseling and Rehabilitation Center for Drug Addiction. During this time, she also had the honor of meeting Mrs. Barbara Bush, the former First Lady of the United States. Although she was accomplished in her career, Dorothy’s true passion was cooking. She shared her gift generously—as a private caterer and as a beloved cook for the daycare at First Gethsemane Baptist Church, where she was also a faithful member. Dorothy was blessed to meet the love of her life, Rev. Larry Riley. Within a few months, they were united in marriage, a loving union that endured for 44 beautiful years. She cherished their marriage deeply, always emphasizing that “a marriage takes three—the husband, the wife, and God at the center.” Together, she and Rev. Riley served faithfully in ministry, with him pastoring 8th Street Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee, and N Street Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky, for ten years. After his retirement from preaching, they joined Little Flock Baptist Church, where Dorothy remained a dedicated member until she was called home. Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband Rev. Larry Riley; her sister, Gloria Farris (Rothel); sister-in-law, Diane Bonner (Anthony); her children, Tonia Cunningham, Timothy Cunningham, and Terry D. Cunningham; grandchildren, Sametha Lewis, Terry L. Cunningham, TeShonna Billups (Anthony), and Demetrius Morrison; along with numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and a loving church family and circle of friends who will forever cherish her memory. She was a graduate of Central High School. Mary Ann was known and loved by many and knew no stranger. She had a sense of humor like no other. Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Starra McDowell; and one grandchild, Kirk McDowell. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Penny McDowell; two grandchildren, Joshua Rhodes and DeKayla Hale; and one great-grandchild who was very special to her, Hermonie Adkins. Ryan was born on June 29, 1976, in Louisville, Kentucky, and from the very beginning, he brought energy, warmth, and kindness to those around him. Ryan was adopted as a baby, the second of three children of Earl Jerome Henderson and Ella Alcyon Henderson. Ryan grew up in the Douglas Hill community, where his love for baseball and natural athleticism stood out early on. A proud graduate of Louisville Manual High School, Ryan continued his journey at Murray State University before answering the call to serve his country in the United States Air Force. His service took him overseas to Korea as a Postal Specialist, and later to San Antonio, Texas, where he earned the rank of Airman First Class. Ryan carried the discipline and pride of his military service with him throughout his life. Back home, Ryan built a career in the service industry, where his kindness, humor, and genuine care for others left a lasting impression on everyone he met. But he never lost sight of a deeply personal goal—to complete his college education. He made a promise to his father, Jerome, that he would go back to school and finish his degree. With determination and love for his children as his motivation, he returned to school at the University of Louisville, completing all requirements for his Bachelor of Arts in Social Services. He will be honored as a member of the Class of 2026—a milestone that reflects his perseverance and serves as an enduring example to his family. Ryan lived his life with passion and joy. He was a devoted fan of University of Louisville athletics and could often be found tailgating at football games, sharing laughter and memories with his father, Jerome, and his brother, Rodney among other family and friends. His admiration for Lamar Jackson made him a proud Baltimore Ravens fan—much to the playful frustration of his Steelers-loving family. Music was another of Ryan’s great loves. Influenced by his brother Rodney, he became a lifelong fan of Prince and hip-hop, always ready with a song, a memory, or a dance that brought people together. Above all, Ryan treasured his family. Whether at gatherings, celebrations, or quiet moments, he showed up with love, humor, and an open heart. He was raised in New Zion Baptist Church, where his faith and community helped shape the man he became. After joining, he attended Sunday School and sang in the Pastor’s Choir. He honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps, both domestically and abroad. His years in the military shaped his strong character and sense of duty. While in the US Marine Corp and after completing his service, Michael pursed his true passion – cooking. Whether in a professional kitchen or at home, he enjoyed cooking. He was known not only for his culinary talent and service to his country, but for his love, care and concern shown to everyone around him, especially his family. Along his journey in life, he truly touched the hearts of all that he met. Michael shared a special bond with his daughters and grandchildren and proudly embracing the role of “Pop Pop” and serving as a guiding father figure to his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching his favorite NFL team, the Green Bay Packers, win or lose. He had a deep love for music and enjoyed all different genres of music to include old school, classics, gospel, jazz, rock and country. He fought the good fight of being a Christian and expressed his love for God and Christ through his words and joyful tears as he shared how Christ had impacted his life. Connie was born on January 14,1951 in Louisville, Ky to the Union of Mildred Hudson and Hunter Hudson Jr. She received Christ at an early age at West Chestnut Street Baptist Church and along the way she joined Gospel Missionary Baptist Church in March of 1998. Connie graduated from Louisville Male High School in 1969. Connie worked at several places in Louisville, Kentucky, one was her starts was at Brown & Williams manufacturing company, but she retired from the Board of Education after teaching for over 20 years. Connie leaves to cherish her memories one daughter Monique Anthony (Mark); her late son Toriano (Tito) Hudson; her two sisters, Diane and Shermaine Hudson; three late brothers, Ronald, Donnie, and James Hudson; four grandchildren, Mark III, Mon’a Anthony, Timothy Hudson, and her late grandson, Torion Hudson; five great-grandchildren, Serenity, and Xavier Anthony, Mia, Kaiya, and Oakley Hudson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Connie was fun loving and enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren. She also loved going to church and singing in the choir with her church members. Sharon worked for years at Central State Hospital, The Cabinet for Family and Children Services, Vocational Rehabilitation, Farm Boys, Marks Quick Stop, and a handful of other places. She was the kind of person you did not forget. She was funny, outspoken, full of personality, and never afraid to be exactly who she was. She could make you laugh when you needed it most and always had a way of saying what everyone else was thinking. She brought life, humor, and honesty everywhere she went, and the people who loved her will always remember her for the joy and realness she brought into their lives. More than anything, Sharon loved her family. She was fiercely protective of the people she loved. If you were hers, you were loved hard, defended loudly, and cared for deeply. Tonda was the third oldest of seven sibling was preceded in death by her parents. Tonda was a proud graduated for Suda E. Bulter High School, May 1979. She later pursued higher education and earned her Associate of Applied Science degree Chemical Dependency from Louisville College November 1987. A woman of deep faith, Tonda was a devoted member of Trinity Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she faithfully served as President of the Missionary of Ohio Valley Presbytery. She worked for Optum Trover Solutions before retired. Tonda "Ms. Tee" live a vibrant and active life. She found joy in traveling, decorating for church events, shopping and giving back to her community, especially through her involvement in Breast Cancer awareness initiatives. She was also a proud member of social club including "Nobody's Angels, Backstage Entertainment, and the 7-11 Fox Club. Also she loved her NFL games and she was a die-hard Patriots Fan to the end. She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her daughter Taewanna Anderson (Londell) and a bonus daughter Amber Johnson; grandson, Terron Miles; granddaughter Tay' Ana Choate (Treveon); and two great-grandchildren Shiloh Miles and Aurora Choate. Junebug was a man who knew how to live. He had a genuine love for cooking, entertaining friends, and attending parties — and wherever he went, he was undeniably the life of the party. His infectious energy, warm spirit, and ability to bring people together left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Junebug never met a stranger, and his presence could light up any room. Antonio Jermaine Kennedy, 35, passed away on March 20, 2026. Funeral will be 12 noon on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at new Jerusalem Baptist Church, 2973 Wilson Avenue. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Friday also at the church. Antonio was born on Thursday, January 17, 1991, to Tonia Kennedy and the late Tyrone Murphy. He attended Jeffersontown High School and later enrolled in Youth Build Louisville, graduating in 2014. It was there that he discovered his passion for the construction trade. Antonio went on to work as a foreman with Durrty Excavation, where he took pride in his craft and leadership. He was a proud member of the TU motorcycle club, where his tough exterior earned him the nickname “Loco.” Yet those who truly knew him will remember the enormous heart beneath that exterior — a heart he shared freely with his three children, his family, and his many friends. Antonio also gave back to his community as a Little League Football coach for the Titans, pouring his energy and dedication into the young athletes he mentored. Antonio was preceded in death by his father, Tyrone Murphy; grandparents Leroy Murphy and Bernice Kennedy; and uncles Corey Murphy, Jermaine Murphy, and Tyrone Kennedy. He found great joy in life’s simple yet meaningful moments cheering on his favorite teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Louisville Cardinals, attending sporting events, and most of all, supporting his daughter and grandchildren in all their endeavors. He cherished family gatherings and had a love for travel, always creating lasting memories that will be treasured by those closest to him. Known for his energetic personality and warm, ever-present smile, Ronald had a way of lighting up any room. He had a deep love for riding his bikes, something that brought him both peace and happiness throughout his life. “He loved his bikes.” His enthusiasm and spirit were truly unforgettable. Ronald dedicated many years of his life to working in construction and retired from the YMCA, where he continued to make a positive impact through his hard work and dedication. He is survived by his lifelong partner, Darlene Richards; his loving children, Ronnie Richards (Tyeshia) and Margaret Richards; his cherished grandchildren, Ryane, Ronnie Jr., and LeVeah Richards, La’Tayvia Stockton, William Elliott and great grandchildren. Rhonda Diana Draper was born July 18, 1963, in Huntsville, Alabama. She graduated from Fern Creek High School in 1982 and went on to pursue a long career as a caregiver and medical professional in long-term care. Her warm and giving nature brightened the days of so many people, and being a caregiver was both her professional and personal calling.

Rhonda departed this life on March 13, 2026, at the age of 62 after a brave battle with ovarian cancer. She was preceded in death by her loving son, Michael Shawn Draper.

Rhonda leaves to cherish her memory her devoted mother, Betsy Draper; her loving siblings, Michele “Missy” Draper (Mark Coleman), Tony Draper, Dan Draper (Lindsey), and Damon Draper; and her beloved grandsons, Zion and Malachi. She will also be dearly missed by her close friends Michael Brooks (Darline) and Michelle Hopkins, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, friends, and extended family.

Rhonda will be remembered for her generous heart and fierce protection of those she loved. Her big laugh and sense of humor carried her and her family through many difficult times. She was our anchor and our guiding light, and even at the edge of goodbye, her heart stayed fixed on one thing: that everyone she loved would be safe, held close, and cared for.

Donald Edward Smith, age 81, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, surrounded by his family and friends, after a brief illness. He was born on July 6, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Albert Smith Sr. and Theodora Smith. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. March 21, 2026, at New Zion Baptist Church, 1501 Louis Coleman Jr. Drive. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Interment will follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens - West. Donald was a devoted father, grandfather, husband, brother, and friend, and a steady presence in the lives of all who knew him. He was known for his kindness, strength, humor, generosity, and strong work ethic, as well as for the way he made people feel safe, welcomed, and deeply loved. Throughout his life, Donald worked as a Supervisor at Ford Motor Company, where he took great pride in his work, providing for his family and helping others. An entrepreneur and public servant, he was the owner of Male Logistics II and served as a Special Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy (Badge Number 982). Donald was also a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 25. Outside of work, Donald found joy in spending time with his family and friends and in faithfully serving his church home, New Zion Baptist Church. Above all else, he loved God and his family deeply. Donald is survived by his loving daughters: Dionne Burns; Shannen Heyman (James); and Camille Smith. He leaves behind six cherished grandsons: Corrion Tyree Anderson (Dionne); Demetrius Jafar Lex Heyman, James Kuei Kier Lex Heyman, and Donevon Alexander Lex Heyman (Shannen); Sean Martin Smith and Corban Joseph Smith Brown (Camille). Daughtry is survived by her mother Arcelia Lorraine Mitchell; daughter, Michelle Jordan Phillips (Leon); siblings, Samuel James Gordon, Anthony Lorenzo Gordon (Germany), Penny Gordon-Smith and Martha Marie Santiago (Daniel); two stepsisters, Maria and Quinette Gordon; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Rev Patricia Daughtry was born September 11, 1955, to the union of the late Willie James Gordon and Arcelia Lorraine Copeland. She was preceded in death by her mother, Arcelia Lorraine Mouring (Concord, NC); brothers, Samuel James Gordon, Anthony Lorenzo Gordon (Germany); sisters, Orisa Penny Gordon Smith (Michael) (High Point, NC), Martha Marie Santiago (Daniel) (Concord, NC), Mariea Gordon, and Quinette Gordon (Lexington, KY). During her time in the military, she accepted Christ as an adult, and was baptized at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church (Colorado Springs, CO). She served twelve years in the United States Air Force, obtaining an Honorable Discharge and an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Administrative Assistant. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Boyce College). She was preceded in death by her mother Arcelia Lorraine Mouring and brother Samuel James Gordon. She survived by daughter Michelle Phillips (Leon) (HighPoint NC); sisters Orisa Penny Smith, High Point, NC , Martha Marie Santiago (Daniel) Concord, NC , Maria Gordon and Quinette Gordon, Louisville, Kentucky, one brother Anthony L. Gordon, Germany. Step-mother Deborah Gordon. 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She accepted her calling as a minister to preach and teach at New Life Christian Center in 1992 (San Antonio, TX). She moved to Louisville, KY in 1994, being led to join First Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church in January 1995; she was licensed (04/1995) and ordained (09/2012) by Pastor T. Vaughn Walker. She served as associate minister, EDGE school teacher (4th & 5th grade girls), Leading Ladies Women Ministry Core Team member, and sang with the Voices of Praise choir. Although I did not have the opportunity to experience the blessings of a Christian home early in my life, through acquaintance with Christian friends in the military I came to know of God’s love and the salvation available to me through Jesus Christ. I accepted Him as my Savior and Lord at the age of twenty-nine. During my years in the military, I committed my life and the teaching skills He had given me to vocational service through the church. I have sought to prepare myself for such service through my college and seminary education through a teaching and encouraging ministry and a commitment to servant leadership. I strived to proclaim the Good News of God’s love, to help others encounter Him, to lead them in prayer and worship of Him, and to nurture their spiritual development and ministry involvement.

Patricia leaves behind one daughter, Michelle Yvette Jordan Phillips (Dr. Leon Phillips), High Point, NC; sisters Orisa Penny Smith, High Point, NC, Martha Marie Santiago (Daniel) Concord, NC , Maria Gordon and Quinette Gordon, Louisville, Kentucky, one brother Anthony L. Gordon, Germany. six grandchildren, three great-grandson; six siblings; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Uronda Denise Woolfok was born to the late Posey Lee and Lillie Mae Taylor on May 25, 1965, in Louisville, Kentucky. She was the youngest of their five children and held a special place in the hearts of her family from the very beginning. At an early age Uronda accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was a member of Eastern Star Baptist Church. She grew up as a fun-loving energetic child who truly enjoyed being surrounded by family. Known for her adventurous spirit, Uronda had a love for travel that began at an early age. As a young girl, she was actively involved in the 4-H Club often attending summer camps throughout Kentucky. She also treasured her travel experiences and the memories she made along the way from visiting cousins in Dayton, OH, to trips to Disney World in Orlando, Florida and attending the World’s Fair in Knoxville, TN. Later in life, she spent time working and living in Atlanta, GA with her children. Uronda was educated in the Jefferson County Public School System and attended Ballard High School, where she participated in the Junior ROTC. She later continued her education through the U.S. Jobs Corps program, where she received training in business and hospitality. She was previously united in holy matrimony to Jeffrey Woolfolk. Uronda transitioned from this life on March 8, 2026, at Rolling Hills Health Center in New Albany, Indiana, following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved siblings, Eula Jane Fox, David Lee, James and Dwayne Taylor. She leaves to cherish her memory her two children, Timothy Taylor, and Whitney Taylor, her four grandchildren, Shawn, Shumari, Ragen, and DeAndre; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends who will continue to carry her love in their hearts. She went onto NYC Community College to become a Lab Technologist. She was a woman that held many positions including a Hair Dresser, a Barber, a Taylor, an NYC Cab driver and a Tax Preparer and many more. Lorraine continued to be a Tax Preparer for more than 60 years. She loved to spend time with her family the most. She loved to travel, fine dining, write books and she loved to served The Lord Jesus Christ. Dana was home schooled and attended college. She had her baptism at Saint Steven's Baptist church. Though she did not attend church regularly, she maintained her faith in Christ. Though faced with adversities since her youth, she counted them as out of her hands and persevered through her days unabated. Dana gave her whole heart to provide a loving home for her son, and she lived a vibrant life. She made her peace with God, and on February 25, 2026, he called her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Michael Powell. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Leroy Russell, Jr., Hollis Russell, and James Russell; his sisters Berniece Russell and Ocie Sharpley; and his beloved grandson, Anthony Russell. Charles shared many beautiful years of marriage with the love of his life, Patsy. Together they built a strong and loving family that will continue to honor his legacy. Charles was defined by his work ethic, integrity and his unwavering devotion to his family. Interment will be in Beechwood Cemetery, Lewisburg, Tennessee. Eula was born on November 25, 1927, in Giles County, Tennessee, to the late Eugene and Arlie Cotham. At an early age, Eula professed Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and was baptized at Round Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Lynnville, Tennessee, where her first husband, Edward Braden, was a member. She was united in marriage to Edward Braden, and to this union Patricia and Gene Braden were born, along with four additional children whom she lovingly embraced. After Edward’s passing, she later married Mitchell Sowell. She joined her husband in becoming a member of Second Avenue Church of Christ in Lewisburg, Tennessee. Following Mitchell’s passing, Eula moved to Louisville, Kentucky, purchasing a home next door to her daughter Patricia. Determined to find a church home where she truly felt she belonged, she eventually found that home at West Broadway Church of Christ. She moved her membership from Tennessee and remained a faithful member there until her passing. Eula was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Edward Braden and Mitchell Sowell; her brothers, James and Roy Cotham; her sisters, Sara Mootry and Bettye Bonner; her sons, Gene Braden, Edward Martin, Edward Jordan (Jurdie), Ernest Braden, and Bobby Braden; her grandchildren, Bobby Braden, Jr., Jeffrey Moore, and Richard Ernell Crutcher; Son-In-Law, Danny Williams along with many other beloved family members. Alvin loved sports as a young man he played baseball and basketball and became a referee. He loved fish and most of all helping others. He may be seen transporting his neighbors to and from the store or doing yard work ,or community project keke’s sistas keepers on top of list he loaded and unloaded for many of their outreach events with his truck. He was very knowledgeable on his politics and actively engaged in issues that matters to him . In his later years renewed his relationship with Christ and Joined New Start Ministries under Pastor Terrance Hearn where it was so evident he was happy in his soul and spirit. Everyone that knew Alvin loved him and enjoyed his sense of humor and his quotes and way with words. He will be deeply missed in the Flaget Community. Demetrius was truly loved and left a lasting impression on everybody who knew him. He was from 28th Street and was proud of where he came from. He loved to tell jokes and keep people laughing. He was a proud graduate of Seneca High School, Class of 1997. He did not have a church home, but he attended King Solomon Baptist Church from time to time. Demetrius shared over 20 years of love with his significant other, Lakesha Young. Their bond was built on loyalty, growth, and standing by each other through everything life brought their way. He loved music and could always be found riding with 8Ball and MJG, South Circle, and Mr. Mike playing loud. He loved money, not for flash, but because his biggest goal was always to make sure his kids were good. He enjoyed playing basketball, and had a real love for cars and riding. He lived life his way, stayed true to himself, and stood solid for the people he loved. Most of all, He loved hard. He showed up for his family and friends, protected those close to him, and left behind memories that will never fade. Though his absence hurts deeply, his love, laughter, and spirit will live on through everyone who knew him. He was a proud and devoted father. His children were his heart and his biggest motivation. Everything he did, he did with them in mind. Demetrius loved music and could always be found riding with 8Ball and MJG, South Circle, and Mr. Mike playing loud. Demetrius was preceded in death by his baby girl Christiana Lynn Fant who he loved deeply and spoke of; losing her was something that stayed with him he’s also proceeded in death by his grandparents, Mamie Fant and Bennie Fant. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving parents Deborah Fant and Robert Pointer his kids Demetrius Fant Jr Diamond Hanserd Christian Fant and Christina Fant; siblings, Mahogany Fant, DeAndre Fant, Tomeka Crawford, Derrick Wickliffe, and Brandon Crawford, And also his loving nieces and nephews and Grandchildren. He leaves behind a close circle of friends who meant the world to him and stood by him through life. Their bond ran deep, and they shared countless memories, laughs, and real moments together. Those friends include James Moore, Devin Henderson, Eugene Henderson, Lavon Crayton, Willie Ford, and Montez D’mon. He also carried the memories of Shawntez Coleman and Courtney Otis close to his heart and never forgot them.

Anna Lorraine Hughes, 86, passed away on February 5, 2026. Services will be Saturday, February 14, 2026 beginning with the visitation at 11 am and funeral service to follow at 1 pm at Star Hope Baptist Church, 5009 E. Indian Trail. Interment will be in Petersburg/Newburg Cemetery. Lorraine worked at the University of Louisville Hospital for 30 years. After retirement, she stayed active working in organizations such as NCNW, NAACP as well as being very active as a member of St. Stephens Baptist Church. She began attending Star Hope Baptist Church when her health began to decline. Lorraine’s favorite past-time was picking up her grandson, Jeramy, to “ride around” and then stop at restaurants to eat food neither of them should be eating with their diabetes. Lorraine also worked with her grandson Jeramy in the Infield Ministry on several efforts to improve the Petersburg and Newburg communities. Lorraine married Dennis Hughes Sr right after college. After her divorce, she worked to build a home for herself and two kids in the Petersburg neighborhood while also working to put her two children through college. Lorraine leaves to greatly miss her a son, Dennis Martin Hughes Jr (Bette), a daughter, Angela Rebecca Kelly (Andre); three grandchildren Alethea Allen (Geoff), Imani Olivia Kelly and a grandson who preceded her in death, Jeramy Bahir Hughes; three great-grandchildren Myeah, Bastian and Kallel Allen; three brothers, Ernest Clay Harris (Lenora), Richard Harris (Earlica), Clarence Harris (Tonya) and William Russell Harris – deceased (Wendy); nephews Ernest Clay Harris Jr, Bruce Harris (Kara), Richard Harris Jr (Annie), Byron Mays, Ryan Harris (Khasha), Dylan McIntyre (LaWanda), Michael C Harris Sr, Derrick McIntyre (Nikki) and one niece Rachella Harris; three cousins raised as siblings, Connor (Sandra), Donna Matthews (Ronald) and Marvin Connor (deceased) as well as a host of family, friends and loved ones. T'Andra Starling, 56, passed away on February 4, 2026. Services will begin with viewing, 11 - 1 pm on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Rodgers-Awkard & Lyons. Funeral will be 12 noon on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at New Zion Baptist Church, 1501 Louis Coleman Jr. Drive. T’Andra was the beloved daughter of Linda Starling and Waylon Evans. She was a cherished sister to five sisters and three brothers, a loving mother to her two children, Andre Starling and Jasmine Starling, and a devoted grandmother to her pride and joy, Ja’Mya Starling. Her love for her granddaughter knew no bounds—Ja’Mya held a place in her heart that was truly unmatched. She now reunites in eternal rest with her paternal grandmother, Lorraine Wickliffee; her maternal grandparents, William Starling and Frances Howard; and her beloved brother, William David Evans. T’Andra was known for her overly playful and extremely goofy personality. She had a laugh that filled rooms, a voice that carried stories, and a presence you could never ignore. She was unapologetically talkative, full of life, and persistent—never giving up on anything she set her mind to. If T’Andra wanted something, she worked for it, believed in it, and made it happen. A lifelong creator, T’Andra was always working on some kind of project—bringing ideas to life, gathering people together, and making memories along the way. She loved family gatherings, dancing, and playing her favorite bumping music with joy and freedom. Her home and heart were always open. T’Andra also had a deep love for modeling and acting, a passion that brought her confidence, creativity, and joy. She embraced the spotlight and, more importantly, made space for her family in it—taking time to introduce modeling and acting to her children and her granddaughter, encouraging them to explore self-expression, confidence, and creativity alongside her. She was proud of her accomplishments, including earning her Associate degree in Paralegal Studies. Professionally, she served her community with compassion as a medical transporter and later took a bold step by creating her own medical transportation business—another reflection of her determination, independence, and work ethic. Above all, T’Andra loved her family fiercely. In addition to her children and granddaughter, she shared a special bond with her god-daughter, Tynedra, and was deeply grateful for the care and compassion shown to her by her devoted caregiver, Banaz. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and friends who will forever cherish her memory. Her favorite scripture, one that she lived by, was: “No weapon formed against me shall prosper.” — Isaiah 54:17

Delores C. Shemwell, 89, passed away on February 1, 2026. Funeral service will be 11 am Saturday, February 14, 2026 at New Zion Baptist Church, 1501 Louis Coleman Jr. Drive with interment in Green Meadows Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Friday also at the church.

Delores C. Jackson Shemwell was born in Louisville, Kentucky on May 2, 1936. She was the last of ten children born to the late David and Minnie Jackson. Delores accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at six years old at First Gethsemane Baptist Church under the pastor-age of the late Rev. Rufus Hughes. She was educated in the Louisville Public School System and a graduate of the Historic Central High School. She was later employed by Jefferson County Public School System as a reading instructor for 27 years.

She married the late Charles Shemwell III in 1956. To this union three children were born—Wayne, Charles IV and Carol. She served in many capacities in her life including but not limited to being a licensed cosmetologist.

She leaves to mourn her passing her: three children, Wayne Shemwell (JoAnn), Charles Shemwell, and Carol Shemwell; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of other friends, relatives and loved ones.

Charles E. Young, Jr., 54, passed away on February 1, 2026. Charles Young Jr. was born on October 18, 1971 in Louisville KY to the late Charles Sr. and Renita Young. He was known as Cha Cha to his family and friends. He was the youngest of 3 children. Cha Cha attended Jeffersontown High School. He was well liked for his laid back personality. Cha Cha never knew a stranger. His friendships ranged all over the city. You could always catch him at California Park Day and Victory Park Day. Cha Cha accepted Christ and joined Zion Baptist Church in the early 2000s. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beautiful daughter, Jazmine Young. He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving son James Young; sisters: Penny Young, and Lynn Vaughn (Darryl); Nieces and Nephews: Gerry Young (Ciara), Margaret Young, Tim Young, Desiraee Vaughn, Gerald Young, Jessica Brand, Destiny Fowler (Jaquail); and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Friends.

Shawn was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and a friend to many. He married his wife Katherine Williams on July 30, 1998, and together they shared 27 wonderful years of marriage (33 years together), they built a family that meant everything to him. He is survived by his wife Katherine Williams; his children Bret Williams (Amber), Cierria Williams (Gareth), and Mackenzie Williams (Ricky); and his cherished grandchildren Josh, Greyson, Paisleigh, Ricky IV, Rosalie, Kole, Kai, and Lainey, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his mother Sandra, his father Mike, his brothers Steven, Robert, Mike, and Brian, his sisters Jana, Tara, and Melissa, his grandmother Finnie, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Shawn was preceded in death by his father, Robert Williams and Grandmother, Patsey Jones. Shawn was known for being hard-working and generous, always willing to lend a hand and put others before himself. A lifelong carpenter, he spent his career remodeling houses, taking pride in his craftsmanship and the things he built with his own hands. He loved teaching his children and grandchildren how to build and make things, passing down not just skills, but time, patience, and love. Family was everything to Shawn. He especially enjoyed taking his friends and family to University of Louisville games, creating memories filled with laughter, togetherness, and tradition. Shawn will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his generosity, and his deep love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy built on love, hard work, and the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Theodora “Lady” Clay was born October 18,1952 to the late Rosa Lee Clay and Theodore Clay in Nashville, Tennessee. After moving to Louisville with her family, she dedicated her life to Christ at an early age, at Southern Star Baptist Church under Pastor Kirby. She attended Central High School, where she enjoyed singing, drawing, and dancing. Lady had a lively personality that lit up any room and would bring smiles to many. She had no problem telling it like it is, while making sure you knew she did it out of love. She loved spending time with her family and watching shows like American Idol and Sunday’s Best. Her favorite artist was MO3, whose music she deeply enjoyed. She dedicated 34 years of hard work to Teas Dale, formerly known as Mesa Foods, where she worked diligently up until her final days. Lady is preceded in death by her mother, father, brothers: Raymond Clay and Calvin Clay, nephews: Tevin Roberts and Gerald Dorsey, grandchildren: Jer’Maurie Martin and Jer’Neisa Martin and her life partner, James Martin.
